If you don’t have dental health insurance, it may be tempting to skip your dental checkups and cleanings. But Dr. Jon Erickson at Danville Family Dentistry doesn’t recommend it. Regular dental checkups and cleanings are essential in helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums.
During regular dental checkups at our Hendricks County office, Dr. Erickson can uncover potential dental problems before you’re even aware of them. Dr. Erickson will:
- Examine your head, neck, face, throat and tongue for anything unusual that could be signs of oral cancer or head or neck cancers.
- Check for cavities. Early detection of tooth decay can make treatment easier – and likely less expensive for you – while preventing tooth loss caused by decay that has been left untreated.
- Look for plaque and tartar buildup. When plaque isn’t removed with regular brushing and flossing, it can harden and become tartar. Tartar can irritate your gums and lead to gum disease.
- Examine your gums for gum disease. Gum disease can lead to tooth loss, and it has been linked to health conditions like diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Professional cleanings also are a part of regular dental visits. During your cleaning, Dr. Erickson or your hygienist will use special tools to remove any tartar from your teeth. Then they will polish your teeth to remove surface stains and floss your teeth to remove plaque from in between your teeth.
Additionally, during your dental visit, Dr. Erickson will make any treatment recommendations to correct specific dental problems.
As you can see, regular dental checkups and cleanings are an important part of your overall oral health. Since Danville Family Dentistry doesn’t want to see any of our Hendricks County patients skipping appointments due to a lack of dental insurance, we offer our Smile Savings Plan. While this program isn’t dental insurance, it does enable qualified patients to receive two professional oral evaluations, two professional dental cleanings, and regularly scheduled X-rays for a year at a low annual rate of $285. Additionally, if you require additional dental care to treat specific problems, you’ll receive 15% off of any other dental services provided by our practice.
