ORAL CANCER SCREENING
You make sure to have all your other yearly cancer screenings done, but have you been neglecting your mouth? Oral cancer strikes an estimated 35,000 Americans each year. That’s why we take oral cancer screening so seriously.
Every patient receives this screening at each appointment. We recommend that you make sure to have at least one a year, even if you have full dentures. Remember, you may not have teeth, but you still have gums, a tongue, and cheeks that may develop oral cancer. Unlike some other cancers, it is very difficult for someone to do a self-examination for oral cancer. Very rarely can a patient detect oral cancer without a dental professional’s help. In most cases that are found by the patient themselves, the cancer has already grown to a stage where the treatment is radical, difficult, and at times can be rather devastating.
